#Regram #RG @conservationorg: Do you know where your seafood comes from? The answer might surprise you. . Seafood is consumed more than any other animal protein on Earth — more than pork, chicken, beef or eggs. And half of the world’s wild-caught seafood comes from coastal community fisheries — smaller scale, artisanal operations that support the food security and livelihoods of millions of people. Discover 4 things you might not know about these coastal fisheries by visiting http://ci-intl.org/2jws4Jr #fisheries #fish #indonesia #westpapua #sustainable #seafood #conservation

#Regram #RG @unfccc: The arid landscape of Israel’s Negev Desert will look like a futuristic movie in the near future. The country is building the tallest solar thermal tower in the world above its dusty sands. Surrounded by 50,000 mirrors, the 250 meters high tower should be able to produce enough power for about 5% of Israel’s population when it’s concluded. The sunlight will be reflected by the mirrors to a boiler at the top of the tower. The boiler will then be able to convert them and heat water to steam to turn the turbine in a conventional power plant. Thank you President @BarackObama for continuing to protect our planet and preserving #nationalmonuments that recognize America’s civil rights history. #Regram #RG @sierraclub: President Obama has designated new national monuments recognizing the country’s civil rights history -- The Reconstruction Era, Freedom Riders, and Birmingham Civil Rights National Monuments. He also further protected the existing Cascade-Siskiyou National Monument in Oregon and the California Coastal National Monument, celebrating our country's beautiful places. The designations accompany a presidential memorandum to increase diversity and community outreach across land management agencies to help ensure our parks and public lands are more inclusive and welcoming to people from all walks of life. #Regram #RG @everydayclimatechange: Photo by Georgina Goodwin @ggkenya for @everydayclimatechange. Empusel, the name the Maasai call the salty, dusty plains and from which the word ‘Amboseli’ is derived, is about to relish in the first of the rains. The Amboseli basin, a semi-arid, open savannah area of southern Kenya, has experienced extensive changes in habitat since the early 1960's with daily temperatures increasing dramatically at a greater rate than that attributed to global warming. Amboseli has experienced an extensive loss of the trees due to a rising water table and the related rise of the salt layer in the soil, to grazing patterns, to a natural ageing of the woodlands, and to damage from an increasingly resident elephant population now unable to move the distances they used to due to growing human population around the reserve. The temperature changes here are now causing the landscape changes, and to confuse matters the temperature pattern may itself have been caused by the landscape changes. The climate change discussion is as dynamic and as important as ever. #climatechange #globalwarming #ic_landscapes #travel #natgeohub @natgeotravel #desertification #dust #everydayclimatechange #drought #deforestation #trees #colorcrush #horizon #canon #canonphotos #canon5dmarkiii

Click the link in the bio to learn more as one of the 10 largest ever recorded icebergs is about to break away from Antarctica. #Regram #RG @franslanting: Photo by @FransLanting I returned from Antarctica recently where I revisited locations I knew from years before. I was astonished to set foot ashore in places where I expected to find snow and ice and instead found bare rock. Antarctica is melting fast and that will lead to a significant rise in sea levels around the planet. Ultimately, every one of the billions of people who live near a coastline will be affected. The icicles dripping from this iceberg stranded on the edge of Antarctica enabled me to visualize the precarious balance between water, ice, and sun. The invisible component in this delicate equation is all of humanity and the way we are impacting the planet. We can all play a role in making our lifestyles more sustainable and to stem the tide. Stay tuned for more images and stories from Antarctica soon. @natgeo @natgeotravel @natgeocreative @thephotosociety @LeonardoDiCaprio #Antarctica #Ice #ClimateChange #BeforetheFlood

In July 2016 the solar powered plane, piloted by Swiss pioneer Bertrand Piccard, successfully completed its historic attempt to fly around the world without the use of fuel, powered only by the sun's energy. The epic journey took more than a year to complete. Credit: AFP/Solar Impulse 2/Jean Revillard #picsoftheyear #SolarImpulse2 #solarpower #roundtheworld #solarenergy

Proud of the work we've done at #LDFoundation with partners like the Elephant Crisis Fund in an effort to protect these animals. #Regram #RG @elephantcrisisfund: Monumental news - China has announced a ban on all ivory trade and processing activities by the end of 2017! This is a game-changing decision that many have worked hard for, and will directly and hugely impact the survival of elephants across the world. #Regram #RG @amazonwatch: Indigenous peoples of the Peruvian Amazon have been protesting for months after a series of oil spills have contaminated land and rivers along the pipeline route. In recent weeks the government finally agreed to talks with the communities, which last week resulted in agreements for the government and pipeline company to clean up the spills and prevent future ones. This is a victory for the indigenous water protectors, but they -- and we -- must remain vigilant to assure that the government fulfills those agreements. #Regram #RG @natgeo: Photo by @edkashi/@viiphoto: A field of crops is covered by plastic bags in California’s Central Valley in December 2016. Prolonged droughts in the Valley have caused extreme weather conditions, damaging crops due to lack of rainfall and absence of moisture in the air. In a recent article posted in cropinsuranceinamerica.org, Doug Benik, a farmer and crop insurance agent explains, “The lack of moisture in the air allows air temperatures to get much colder in the winter and much hotter in the summer.” Due to the much colder temperatures, farmers use different methods for protecting their crops from frostbite, such as covering them with bags. #everydayclimatechange #actonclimate #California #CentralValley #crops #climatechange
